To help parents navigate the increasingly complex world of their child’s social media, the Exeter Township School District is partnering with
ECEF and the
BCIU to host a county-wide parent presentation and mental health fair on
Wednesday, October 21 at 7PM at Exeter Township Junior High School. Digital safety expert
Katie Greer, a nationally-recognized speaker who has been featured in
USA Today,
TIME Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Parents Magazine, CNN and more, will give parents a practical, current look at the digital world kids are navigating, including:
- Updates on the latest tech trends, including popular apps, social media trends, gaming and sexting
- Social media age limitations, and how often kids are breaking them
- Privacy settings, location services, check-ins: Are your devices set-up safely?
- Advice for having real conversations with your child to foster a positive online experience for your family, with suggested restrictions and rules
- Digital health check-in: Is your family doing a good job balancing life and technology?
- Smartphones and age: What's the average age kids get smartphones? Are there alternatives? Is there a right age for kids to get smartphones?
The event is free and open to all Berks County parents and caregivers 18 years old and older.
Representatives from Berks County mental health agencies will be available with information and resources; free babysitting and activities for children will be provided; and food trucks will be on site with refreshments available for purchase.
